CPAP Machines Linked to Serious Lung Disorders
A CPAP machine is designed to help you receive continuous air while you sleep, and as a result, it’s the primary treatment for sleep apnea. Typically in these devices, you wear a mask connected to a hose that supplements your breathing.

When using one of these devices, you breath in whatever your CPAP machine puts out. So if something breaks off or there’s bacterial growth in the machine, it will be transmitted straight into the lungs. You may breathe it into your system without even realizing it.
In 2021, Philips Respironics recalled millions of breathing machines. They found a noise-dampening foam in the machines had degraded into tiny particles. As a result, users inhaled the particles and the dangerous chemicals in them.
These chemicals include toluene diamine and toluene diisocyanate, among others. Studies have long shown they cause cancer.
The foam containing these chemicals was meant to make the machine quieter, but at what cost?
