Misdiagnosis happens far too often

By: Darrell Castle

If misdiagnosis isn’t the number one cause of medical malpractice, then it’s definitely up there near the top.

Misdiagnosis, or delayed diagnosis, happens far too often. And it can be very dangerous.

Take this case my law firm had as an example. A man in pain went to the hospital with classic heart attack symptoms, but was sent home after being diagnosed with simple indigestion. That night, the man died of the heart attack symptoms that were overlooked. The man’s wife was awarded a high six-figure verdict in damages from the medical negligence.

If your condition is misdiagnosed, then you may miss treatment vital to your health, and in some cases, even your survival. Then, your condition may worsen and even become life-threatening if it wasn’t before the misdiagnosis.

A doctor is a professional – one we’re supposed to trust will have our best interest at heart and use his or her knowledge and experience to fix us. However, doctors are also human, and just as we humans tend to do, they can make mistakes also.

That’s why doctors carry medical malpractice insurance. On the slim chance they do make a mistake and you suffer from it, they’re insured and that’s how their lawsuits are paid.

If you’ve been a victim of medical malpractice, or think you have been, you need to speak to a medical malpractice attorney immediately.

When you’ve been harmed because of a misdiagnosis or any act of medical malpractice, YOU’RE the victim – not the doctor. You shouldn’t be held liable for the extra medical bills you’ve accrued as a result of the negligence. You should be compensated for that, as well as the pain, suffering, lost wages from time off work, etc.

A medical malpractice attorney will investigate the case detail by detail – every nook and cranny. When claiming medical malpractice, you’re claiming the doctor acted outside the standard of care and that any other reasonable doctor would have acted differently.

Your attorney needs to back your medical malpractice claim with a documented medical expert witness claiming the doctor in question acted outside the standard of care.

The process is complicated, which is why you need the right attorney representing you.

You need an attorney you can trust. You need an attorney who will walk and talk you through every step of the process. You need an attorney with access to the best medical experts.
