Medical bills and liability in car accident cases
By: Darrell Castle
If you’ve been hurt in a car accident, you should always seek medical attention! There will probably be an ambulance at the scene of the crash, or you can go see a doctor. But of course, that comes with a cost.
How do you pay for that medical treatment? Well, that depends on whether the accident was your fault or not.
If the car accident WAS your fault, then you’ll be liable for those costs. However, if the accident WAS NOT your fault, the person AT fault is liable for those payments.
Are you not sure whose fault the accident was? That’s okay – it’s common. That’s why you should always speak to an attorney if you think the accident was someone else’s fault, OR if you’re not sure. An experienced car accident attorney will investigate the accident and can determine who was liable and if you’re entitled to compensation for damages.
When discussing liability in car accidents, it’s also important to discuss car insurance; you need to have it! And, on top of the basic car insurance, it’s in your best interest to have uninsured motorist coverage.
Living here in Memphis, you’re likely to see a car accident almost everyday – they’re very common. It’s also common for Memphis drivers to not carry insurance. If you’re in a car accident and the person liable doesn’t have insurance, then you’re out of luck, UNLESS you have uninsured motorist coverage!
