Why having good credit is so important
By: Darrell Castle
Hello, I’m Darrell Castle. I’m an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of Tennessee and I’ve been doing a series of videos on the subject of credit. Today, we’re talking about why having good credit is so very very important.
The answer to that question is because everything costs more – all these decisions we make in our life feed off each other and they tend to accelerate and snowball as they go downhill. We make decisions that might cost us our credit rating or our credit score and then when we go into a bank or a finance company to try to mortgage a home, we find that the home that we want is going to cost us several hundred dollars more a month than if we had made a different financial decision and kept our credit score higher.
It’s the same thing with a car. If we want to buy a car, the interest rate is negotiable just like the price of the car, but the worst your credit score, the higher that car payment’s going to be, so that you have a lesser quality of life if you want to look at it that way. That’s why credit is very important.
In fact, you might not even be able to rent if you don’t keep good credit. People do a credit check when they rent to you and they might not want to rent to you because you’re a higher risk of nonpayment just like you’re a higher risk of nonpayment on a car or a house. So, the lender – the person who lends the money – has to be compensated for taking that higher risk so he might not want to rent to you for a renter who has a better credit score.
You might not even be able to get the job you want because the employer you talked to might do a credit check and might prefer someone with a higher credit score and higher rating.
If you work for someone like a government agency, or you desire to work for a government agency or some place that requires a security clearance, that could be denied to you if you don’t have good credit. These are things and reasons why it’s very important to have good credit.
Now the good news is there are ways to improve your credit score. When I say good credit or bad credit, what I’m really talking about is the credit score. There are ways to get your credit score higher and it’s very easy. In fact, we offer a program called “7 Steps to 720” that is available to our clients for free; it’s a $1,000 value but we provide it free to our clients that will help them raise their score to 720 or above which should be good enough for anybody.
So, pay attention to your credit, folks. It’s very very important.
