You qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance if you’re MEDICALLY unable to work.

You DON’T qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance if you have the ability to work but just don’t want to work or you can’t find a job.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) will determine whether or not you’re disabled when you apply.

The SSA has an impairment listing – also referred to as the “blue book” – that lists special disabilities a person can have that would automatically qualify them to receive Social Security Disability Insurance benefits.

If you think you’re medically unable to work but you’re disability doesn’t match one listed in the impairment listing, you can still apply, and you should! It just may be more difficult to get your application approved, but that’s what an attorney is for.

Applying for Social Security Disability Insurance can be hard. The stack of forms you have to complete is complex and full of legal jargon. Fortunately, there are experienced Social Security Disability attorneys who can read and interpret that legal jargon like the back of their hand and know what it takes to have a successful application.

Once the application is complete and turned in, it can take a few months to hear the result. Sometimes, the initial application is accepted. Sometimes it’s not. In fact, up to 70% of initial applications are denied.

However, you have 60 days from the date of the letter of denial to appeal that decision. And if you didn’t have an attorney help you with your initial application, then you’ll definitely want one to help you with the appeals process as it’s even more complex with a thicker stack of papers to complete.

With an attorney helping you, the probability of your application succeeding is much higher. And, having an attorney on your side is quite affordable.
