Defective Military Earplugs Lawyer Fighting for Veterans

As a defective military earplugs lawyer who has served the Memphis, Nashville, and Mid-Faulty Military EarplugsSouth areas of Tennessee for over thirty years, I want to make sure you have all the information about veterans who have suffered hearing loss and damage due to defective earplugs.

A company called 3M (once known as Aearo Technologies) sold over two million pairs of earplugs to the U.S. military between 2003 and 2015. They were called Combat Arms™ Earplugs Version 2, and were purchased to protect the hearing of soldiers in war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. But, the earplugs failed to disastrous consequences.

What went wrong?

According to a complaint filed by the U.S. Government, 3M’s earplugs were “dangerously defective.” They allegedly “caused thousands of soldiers to suffer significant hearing loss and tinnitus” (ringing in the ears) in addition to exposing millions to this same type of hearing-damage risk.

The earplugs allegedly:

  • Were too short for proper insertion in the ears
  • Could loosen over time, decreasing their effectiveness
  • Could gradually lose noise-cancellation performance

The most upsetting claim in the lawsuit is that 3M knew their earplugs were ineffective and would eventually fail, but did not disclose that to the military. Instead, they continued to profit off of their faulty earplugs for more than a decade, while dedicated service men and women damaged, or even lost, their hearing.

What Is a Veteran’s Hearing Worth?

The answer, according to a settlement reached between 3M and the U.S. Government is: not Military Earplug Hearing Lossmuch. 3M was ordered to pay just $9.1 million to resolve the allegations against them. This sum is far less than the profit 3M made by selling defective earplugs to our military. Even worse, the injured get nothing. This is the outrage my law firm, Darrell Castle & Associates, PLLC is fighting. This is why we are hard at work fighting for veterans like you.
