When you’re struggling with debt you can’t pay, your first worry should be getting rid of it in the most-efficient way possible.

For some, that may just be making small budget changes and fixing bad spending habits.

But for others, the debt may be too large and the bad situation too deep. You need another option. You really just need a fresh start. And that’s where a bankruptcy can help you.

However, many people are too embarrassed to file for bankruptcy. It’s true, I hear it all the time from clients. But the embarrassment is usually caused by false assumptions of what they think bankruptcy is.

Here are three things I tell my clients when they’re embarrassed about filing for bankruptcy.

1. People really don’t care

Sure, bankruptcy filings are public record, but how public? They’re printed in The Daily News, a small boutique newspaper circulated among lawyers and businesspeople. And the filings are published inside the newspaper — not on the front page. All it usually lists is your case number, name and lawyer. Have you ever looked at this?

The truth is, it’s a different time than it used to be. People don’t really care that you filed for bankruptcy. Unless you’re a celebrity — like Vince Young recently — it’s not a big deal at all.

2. Our attorneys will take care of you

At Darrell Castle & Associates, we pride ourselves on doing bankruptcy the right way. You’re not just a case number here, but you’re a real person with a real problem. We’re going to take care of you.

Part of taking care of our clients is being as caring and confidential as possible. We know you don’t want to be in our office filing for bankruptcy because that means you’re in a bad situation. But it’s your best option and we’re going to make the process as easy and comfortable for you as we can.

3. The worst has already happened

For whatever reason you’re deep in debt, it’s happened. You can’t change that.

But when you make the decision to file for bankruptcy, it’s all downhill from there. With a bankruptcy comes a fresh start to do things right.

Making an effort to better yourself and your situation is NOTHING to be embarrassed about. It’s actually something to be proud of. If you are in a copious amount of debt, credit collectors are harassing you, or you are being threatened with a lawsuit, you should call a top liquidation lawyer Memphis, TN has to offer for further advice.
