Do you ever wonder what God thinks about the debt you have?
If you do, then you’re not alone! As a Christian bankruptcy attorney, clients ask me about that topic all the time.
You may be worried you’re doing something wrong. You may be ashamed of yourself. But you don’t need to feel that way.
I believe that a better Biblical understanding of debt can lead to better financial decisions.
Good News for the Poor
In the Bible, debt and poverty were one and the same. Only people who were very desperate took out debt. Nowadays, debt is much more common. However, people who can’t pay back their debts STILL feel desperate.
In both Luke and Matthew, the Bible tells us about good news being proclaimed to the poor. And what is that good news? Freedom. Recovery. Favor.
Debt is imprisoning. It keeps us from living the full lives God created us to have. That’s why freedom, recovery and favor are so good. That’s God’s mercy.
Does the Bible talk more about debt?
The Bible answers common questions about debt.
Is it wrong to take out more debt than you can afford? Are credit cards wrong? Doesn’t bankruptcy hurt the creditors and isn’t that wrong? What about getting in debt over and over again?
Those are all questions the Bible addresses. And those are all questions I talk about in my free report.
As mentioned above, many clients ask me what God says about debt. It’s an important subject for them. So it’s an important subject for me. That’s why I spent years exploring the Bible passages that talk about debt and formed a report from my findings.

What about YOUR debt?
If you’re struggling with debt, it’s important to remember God’s good news for you – freedom, recovery and favor.
Here in America, we have a system that gives us that recovery and freedom. It’s called bankruptcy.
By filing for bankruptcy, you can discharge your unsecured debt – debt not backed my collateral – through a Chapter 7. Or you can lump your debt into an AFFORDABLE repayment plan through a Chapter 13. An experienced bankruptcy attorney will help you determine which chapter is best for you depending on your situation.
