As a Memphis Roundup Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Attorney, I’ve been horrified with every turn this story takes. In the last year, three separate California juries have awarded more than $2 billion in damages to cancer patients who sued Monsanto, the manufacturer behind the weedkiller Roundup. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified glyphosate, the key ingredient in Roundup, as carcinogenic.

With every new detail, this case gets more horrifying. Last fall, a study found significant levels of glyphosate in breakfast cereals and snacks targeted at children. A new round of tests commissioned by the Environmental Working Group this summer shows those findings were not a fluke.

From the EWG’s website: “The weedkiller, produced by Bayer-Monsanto, was detected in all 21 oat-based cereal and snack products sampled in a new round of testing commissioned by the Environmental Working Group. All but four products contained levels of glyphosate higher than what EWG scientists consider protective for children’s health with a sufficient margin of safety.”

A child’s breakfast should not contain a carcinogen, and I’m outraged by these findings. We need to get glyphosate out of food marketed at kids.

Why I’m Outraged About the Roundup Cases

I’m a Memphis Roundup Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Attorney, and I know there’s more to the story than these latest test results. There are many reasons to be outraged by Monsanto. The company has continually denied its products’ connection to cancer, maintaining that the IARC report is outnumbered by other studies that have found glyphosate does not cause cancer in humans.

The courtrooms don’t seem to agree. San Francisco jurors awarded a former school groundskeeper with terminal non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, who used Roundup on a weekly basis, $289 million in damages. A different San Francisco jury awarded another cancer patient, who used the product for almost 30 years before his diagnosis, $80 million in damages.
