Trusted valsartan cancer lawyer TN tells you what you need to know about the FDA’s recall on the carcinogen-tainted medication.

As a valsartan cancer lawyer TN residents count on, I want to make sure you have the facts about valsartan and its
link to cancer. Valsartan is the active ingredient in certain medications that treat high blood pressure and heart failure. People who take these medicines often do so to help manage life-threatening conditions. But, the medication may have put their lives at risk in a different way.

You see, this past July, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration conducted tests that found NDMA, a dangerous carcinogen that may cause cancer, present in certain valsartan products. After this discovery, the FDA issued a voluntary recall of those tainted medicines. The full list of the recalled valsartan medications can be found here.

So, what is NDMA?

N-nitrosodimethylamine, or NDMA, is a carcinogen — a substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue. NDMA occurs naturally in some substances, like cured meats, but is most widely used to make industrial products. Such products include fabric softeners, lubricants, and even rocket fuel.

What’s worse, it doesn’t take much exposure to NDMA to be in danger of developing cancer. Specifically, studies show that taking valsartan-containing medication tainted with NDMA for as few as thirty days may put you at risk. Cancers currently linked to recalled valsartan include liver cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and kidney cancer.

If you took one of the recalled medications, you aren’t alone. In fact, doctors prescribed medicine containing valsartan over 1.5 million times last year. Furthermore, current thinking is that the higher the dose of recalled varsatan medication you ingest, the higher your risk of developing cancer. More studies are underway to confirm this suspected link.
