What is Fresenius?

Fresenius SE is a German medical equipment company that owns a smaller division called Fresenius Medical Care. Fresenius Medical Care is a publicly traded company that specializes in kidney dialysis supplies.

As a company dedicated to dialysis, Fresenius Medical Care not only makes a dialysis concentrate; it also supplies that concentrate to patients at Fresenius dialysis clinics. In addition, it sells the concentrate to other doctors and clinics.

Fresenius Medical Care brought in over $2 billion in revenue in 2010.

Fresenius Internal Memos on GranuFlo and NaturaLyte

In 2010, executives at Fresenius were made aware of increased risks associated with their dialysis products – namely, cardiac arrest, stroke, and death.

Internal memos show that Fresenius eventually made doctors and clinics aware of the risk. Unfortunately, they didn’t tell patients, the FDA, nor any physicians or clinics outside of their own network.

The memos specifically describe how GranuFlo and NaturaLyte – a liquid and powder used in dialysis – contain dangerously higher amounts of certain ingredients than rival drugs.

As about 75% of dialysis patients have used GranuFlo or NaturaLyte in their dialysis treatment, this lack of communication has likely caused deadly consequences around the world.

What If I Was Injured After Receiving Dialysis?

If you’ve received dialysis since 2009 and suffered a cardiac event or stroke within 72 hours or so of the procedure, you may be entitled to compensation and should contact our Fresenius GranuFlo and NaturaLyte lawyers immediately to discuss your case for free. You can also call us at 901-327-1212.

If a family member died from stroke or a cardiac event after receiving dialysis, you should absolutely have a lawyer look into your dialysis case or call 901-327-1212. We would be glad to investigate your loved one’s injury at no charge to you.

If you were not injured by a cardiac event or stroke, but still have concerns about your health after receiving dialysis at a Fresenius clinic or via another physician, you should contact your doctor to discuss any potential side effects. The FDA has recalled the products in question, but it’s still your right as a patient to understand how your treatment might be affecting your health.
