By: Darrell Castle If you’ve been injured in a car accident, you should contact an attorney as soon as possible. Some may say you should wait until all medical treatment is complete, but that’s not true. Your attorney will not be able to file your lawsuit until AFTER all of the medical treatment is complete, but that doesn’t mean he or she can’t begin researching and investigating your case. There’s a lot that goes into a car accident case and a lot that your attorney will have to do, so the faster the process begins the better. One factor towards the amount of compensation you receive is the cost of medical treatment. That’s why it’s critical that you’ve reached full

The time to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy really varies from person to person Video Transcript When is the best time to file for Chapter 7 relief? Hi, I’m Darrell Castle and I’m an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of Tennessee and that is a very difficult question to answer. The answer is that it varies from one person to another. Perhaps someone has been sick and in the hospital for a while so that medical bill could be six figures- very large – and perhaps not covered by insurance and the doctors and hospitals

When Unpaid Debts Can Kill

Posted on November 29, 2015
Every summer, Memphis residents in financial trouble run the risk of heat-related illness and even death. As temperatures rise, so does the energy required to cool a home, and the power costs can be crippling for people already in debt. Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) tries to help by not shutting off utilities on the hottest days, and by offering to reconnect utilities for a small fee while deferring the indebted person’s balance. But getting that information out to people who don’t have power can be difficult. In the meantime, people particularly susceptible to heat-related illness – like the elderly and physically handicapped – can struggle to get to a cooling center or safe residence. How can you help?

When To Hire a Bankruptcy Lawyer and Why

By: Darrell Castle Timing is very important. You know that. I know that. And it’s even more important when you’re struggling financially. When you have debt you just can’t pay, you have two options: 1. You can sit around and do nothing. OR 2. You can TAKE ACTION by contacting the right bankruptcy lawyer. The choice is yours, but here’s a little insight into what’s behind both doors. So, you decide to choose option 1. You don’t take action, continue living life the way you have been and let it play out. You’re hoping your circumstances will change. Maybe you’ll run into some extra money or something. But your situation probably won’t change because you aren’t doing anything to make it.

When Your Kids Cause Your Debt

Earlier this week we discussed the rise of foreclosures among people 50 and older, including a significant increase for people 75+. We cited some of the most common reasons, including the loss of savings, unemployment/underemployment, and falling property values. But as bankruptcy attorneys in Memphis, we see another major reason why older residents face foreclosure: the debt of their children. Sometimes when children exceed their own credit limits, they look to their parents for more ways to spend. Parents and grandparents may help them sign for a new car or house, even when the child has no way to pay them back. In some cases, the elder may not know their children or grandchildren don’t have the funds to cover
What are my options if my mortgage is higher than my income? If your mortgage is higher than your income, you’ve got an obvious, very serious problem with your finances – and that needs to be corrected immediately. And there must have been something that happened in your life that caused that situation – a lost job or something of that nature. And unless you can undo that and find a job that pays considerably more – because if your mortgage exceeds your income you’re going to need enough income to cover your mortgage plus all your other daily expenses in order to survive financially. And quite often that type of thing might be impossible, so you might want to

Where to Cool Off in Memphis

Since we’re a personal injury firm, we like to give updates every once in a while about ways to stay safe. Well these days, one of the best safety measures you can take is to cool off. Here are some of our favorite ways to beat the heat in Memphis:   Tuesdays 1-5, the Pink Palace has free admission (and air conditioning). Collierville has two spray parks, free for families, and Midtown has one. Some Memphis parks have pools free to the public. The Memphis Zoo has sprinklers all around and geysers to play in at Teton Trek. Kids can come in their swimsuits. Tuesday afternoons are free, but can get extremely busy.   You can also walk around malls
