What’s your favorite thing about working at Darrell Castle & Associates?

AJ: Well, not only do I enjoy helping everyone – that’s very rewarding – but I like to meet the different types of people. Every single person is different, and not every case is the same.

What’s your favorite lunch during the work week?

AJ: Actually, I enjoy my lunch every day, because I work so close to home and my daughter stays at home with my husband. So I actually have lunch with my daughter every day. The food may not be wonderful – we might just have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich – but we still get to have lunch together every day.

What’s your favorite thing in the office?

AJ: That would be my Mother’s Day present, which is the weirdest thing, but it’s actually a pink, high-heeled shoe that’s a tape dispenser. My daughter picked that out.

What are your favorite things to do on the weekend?

AJ: I like to read when I get the chance.

What do you read?

AJ: Oh, all kinds! Right now I’m working on something I’ve already read before. I have the entire collection of Shakespeare all in one gigantic dictionary-looking book that I’m reading.

Whoa! Do you understand it all?

AJ: I have to Google a lot of things (laughs). But it’s interesting to see how things were said then, compared to how they’re said now.

How do you recharge when you’re tired?

AJ: Um, coffee. Lots of coffee.

Mentally I think I get recharged every time someone comes in here and I actually help them. There are times people want a particular chapter of bankruptcy and they have to go through me. I really like doing that – the numbers side of my job to make sure people qualify. I get to forget about the law side of it for a minute and just do some math.

Most people wouldn’t say doing math.

AJ: (Laughs) Well, it’s easy math.

“I like reading Shakespeare and doing math.” You make the rest of us look bad.

AJ: Well really the most fun I have just pertains to time with my daughter, so that aside.

Can you tell us about a time at work that you’re particularly proud of?

AJ: Most recently, we had a couple that came in. The husband has cancer. It was really sad – emotional, because they were here to get everything in order for when he passed away, for his spouse. He didn’t want to leave everything for her.

I felt really proud to help them. It took a lot of stress off of her, and his health has improved. They’re giving him better chances now because his stress level is so much lower.

What’s one thing people should know about Darrell Castle & Associates?

AJ: We know they’re already going through a hard time, and we don’t want them to feel like if they tell us their story we’re just going to judge them and wonder why they didn’t do a particular thing a particular way.

That’s the biggest part of our firm: we’re so compassionate with clients. We don’t judge people.
