If you find yourself with a day off or need a place to get away, a day trip might be just the thing. Whether you stay in Memphis or travel a bit, there’s a lot in and around the city from which to choose.
Here are a few of our favorites:
About 100 miles from Memphis, Pickwick is the perfect place for a nature lover’s day trip. Rent a boat, hike, golf, fish, four wheel – think up your own possibilities for an outdoor day off.
In about an hour you can be in Oxford’s quaint town square or on the Ole Miss campus. Oxford is a great spot for history buffs and football fans, and the town square and university are nice spots to visit on a rainy day. The town is also close to Sardis Lake for adventurers.
If you have kids and want to stay in the city, the Memphis Zoo has enough activities for a full day. Children can beat the heat by playing in the geysers at Teton Trek, and the animal shows last all day. Save money by packing lunch and having a picnic.
A Day Downtown
Even if you’ve lived in Memphis for a long time, there are probably places downtown you’ve never been to before. Visiting downtown Memphis could save time and money or serve as an upscale option for a special occasion. Start out with a museum visit, like:
- The Cotton Museum
- The National Civil Rights Museum
- Metal Museum
- The Gibson Guitar Museum
- The Underground Railroad Museum, or
- The Mud Island River Park and Museum.
Grab lunch downtown at one of the many amazing restaurants on Beale or S. Main, and top it off with a riverboat trip on the Mississippi.
