blue bell ice cream | memphis personal injury lawyersBy: Darrell Castle

After two samples of ice cream tested positive for a potentially deadly bacteria — listeria — Blue Bell Creameries issued a voluntarily recall for ALL of its products.

Blue Bell — based in Texas — distributes their ice cream, frozen yogurt and snack products in 23 states, including here in Tennessee.

Blue Bell ice cream contaminated with listeria has been linked to three deaths at a Kansas hospital. Five other people in Kansas and Texas were sickened. Click here for more details on the recall.

Blue Bell operates three plants — two in Oklahoma and one in Alabama. Blue Bell originally thought the bacteria was isolated to one of the Oklahoma plants, but then tests came back positive at the other, leading to a deep-cleaning of all three plants and retraining of all employees.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued the following statement:

“We encourage everyone to check their freezers for any Blue Bell brand products and throw them away or return them for a refund where they were purchased. You shouldn’t eat, sell or serve any Blue Bell products, regardless of where they were produced or their expiration date.”
