Motorcyclist is lucky to be alive after this accident and it was caught on camera
A motorcycle collided with an SUV at a Missouri intersection and the accident was caught by the traffic camera. The motorcyclist, who very fortunately walked away from the incident with only a few bumps and bruises, hopes the video shows drivers they need to be more careful and lookout for the many bikers like him out on the road.
The SUV pulled into the intersection to turn left at a green light as the motorcyclist, 20-year-old Britt Hamilton, was crossing. Hamilton had the green light and the right-of-way.
“I had a green light. I guess she got scared and slammed on the brakes,” he said.
Officers claim that without the helmet Hamilton was wearing, as Missouri law requires, he may not be alive.
As you can see in the video, the impact sent Hamilton off the bike, smashing into the SUV, and his shoe went flying.
“My wrist is swollen. My lip is messed up a little. I got a little knot on my leg,” Hamilton said. “I’m surprised I didn’t get a broken bone or something.”
Local police reported the driver who hit the motorcyclist had a learner’s permit and that the accident is still under investigation.
Hamilton is very fortunate here as this situation could have ended much worse. Automobile drivers and motorcyclists need to team up to look out for each other’s safety. Motorcyclists are more vulnerable on their bikes than automobile drivers, and because of that, not only do the motorcyclists need to drive with an extra degree of safety, but automobile drivers need to practice extra caution around motorcyclists.
Cars have an outer protection, motorcycles do not. However, they have just as much right to the road. Car drivers – share the road.
If you’ve been injured in a motorcycle accident, seek the proper medical attention first and foremost, even if you only have a little pain. A little pain after an accident tends to turn into more chronic and aggravating pain down the road.
After you’ve received the proper medical treatment, if the accident wasn’t your fault, speak to an experienced motorcycle accident attorney as you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, motorcycle damage, pain, suffering and more. It’s important to finish your medical treatment however, as the extent of the treatment is a big factor in determing the amount of compensation recovered.
