NuvaRing will settle about 3,800 lawsuits

By: Darrell Castle

NuvaRing manufacturer, Merck & Co., has confirmed their agreement to settle about 3,800 lawsuits after more than 95% of the victims with claims chose to opt into the agreement. Merck had the option to opt out if less than 95% of those victims with claims opted in, but fortunately for the victims, that wasn’t an issue.

The lawsuits claim Merck didn’t do a sufficient job in disclosing the potential dangers associated with the use of NuvaRing – including blood clots, strokes and heart attacks, high blood pressure and heart disease as well as cancer of the reproductive organs and breast.

Merck, in its statement, said there’s “substantial” evidence to show NuvaRing is safe, however, with 83 wrongful death claims associated with the lawsuits, there’s no wonder why it’s hard to believe NuvaRing is a safe birth control contraceptive.
