A bankruptcy can give you that fresh financial start you’ve desired.

Maybe you’re in debt because you got sick and found yourself deep in piles of medical bills you just can’t pay. Or maybe you lost your job all of the sudden and the bills just keep streaming in. Or maybe you made a bad investment or lost control of your spending.

Whatever cause got you into the financial hole you find yourself in right now, just know there’s relief.

You don’t have to live enslaved to your debt. You don’t have to keep spending every day of your life stressed about how you’re going to pay your bills this month. You don’t have to continue suffering through sleepless nights worrying about how you’re going to sufficiently provide for your children. You’re tired. I understand.

That’s why I want to tell you about bankruptcy and the wonderful benefits it can have on your life.

There are two chapters of consumer bankruptcy and your attorney can help you determine which one is best for you and your unique situation.

Getting out of debt through Chapter 7 bankruptcy

What debt do you have? If it’s unsecured debt like medical or credit card bills, then a Chapter 7 bankruptcy may be the best option for you.

By filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, you can discharge your debt relatively quickly without making any payments on it. You can even keep your property — like your house and car — as long as you’re current on your payments and your equity doesn’t exceed the maximum allowable exemptions.

If you aren’t current on your house or car payments — or your equity is extremely high — and you want to keep your property, then Chapter 13 may be a better option for you.

Getting out of debt through Chapter 13 bankruptcy

By filing for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you can lump all of your debt — including your car payment and/or mortgage — into a Chapter 13 repayment plan. This is a 3-5 year period in which you make AFFORDABLE payments on your debt. It’s a debt-reorganization plan!

And then once you’ve finished your Chapter 13 plan, your debt is discharged, you’re current on your mortgage and your car is completely paid off!
