A car accident can happen in the blink of an eye whether you’re paying attention or not.

However, it’s important to always keep your eyes on the road when driving and not give in to the distractions that technology has thrown our way. By doing this, you have a better chance of avoiding those car accidents.

I was driving in Germantown this weekend on Wolf River. A little ways in front of me, I spotted a truck pulled over on the side of the road with its bed sticking out over the line a little bit. However, I saw that I’d be able to go around the truck safely.

But then, an SUV slammed right into the back of the truck at full speed. No brake lights. No slowing down.

The impact was intense. The SUV was probably going around 45 miles per hour, and upon collision, the SUV’s wheel axle popped right off and the car went rolling down a ditch.

Myself and others stopped and got out of our cars to go check on the people involved in the crash, and to our pleasure but also surprise, no one was injured.

However, drivers and passengers could’ve easily been injured in this crash which seemingly could’ve been avoided by simply paying attention.

If the driver of the SUV was paying any kind of attention to the road, he would’ve obviously seen the truck bed sticking out on the road. If the driver of the SUV was paying any kind of attention, it would’ve been obvious for him to go further left to avoid smashing into this truck.

But for some reason, not only did the driver of the SUV not move around the truck bed, but the driver of the SUV never slowed down. The brake lights never flashed. So, as a witness of this accident, I’m left to believe the driver of the SUV was distracted by something and paying no attention to the road.

Fortunately for everyone involved, no one was injured in this violent collision. However, someone could’ve been injured. Easily.

So much can happen on the road so quickly and it can be catastrophic.

Put the phone down. Keep your eyes on the road. Look out for yourself and others on the streets.

Car accidents do happen, and they happen quite frequently here in the city of Memphis. It’s important to know what to do at the scene of an accident, and that’s why I’ve developed a Car Accident Checklist that you can download here.

If you’re injured in a car accident, do the obvious thing and seek medical attention. And if the accident wasn’t your fault, speak to an experienced car accident attorney as you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, pain, suffering and lost wages from time off work.

You need the right attorney though. You need an attorney you can trust and I talk more about what that means here.
