Have you been hurt in a road accident that wasn’t your fault?
Video Transcript
Hello I’m Darrell Castle, an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of Tennessee and I’m going to be doing a series on auto accidents and what to do after you’ve had an auto accident.
So it is important to understand that here in my jurisdiction of Memphis, Tennessee, we have a reputation for aggressive driving – we have a reputation for being a high-accident area. It’s very important to know what to do if you’ve been injured in an auto accident.
The first thing you need to do is get the medical attention that you need.
If an ambiance is offered to you and you feel like you need an ambulance, then by all means accept it and if not, then still if you’re injured then get the medical treatment you need because that is vital to your legal case.
Second, you have to determine if you can return to work or if you can’t. Your doctor will tell you if you don’t need to go to work for a certain period of time. Follow your doctor’s orders and suggestions, get the treatment you need and stay off work the length of time you need.
Come and see your lawyer – that’s the important thing from my standpoint obviously because I want to help you legally or whatever lawyer you’re going to be seeing will want to.
As soon as you’re able, or after you get medical treatment, go and see an attorney and discuss your case with that attorney. He’ll discuss liability with you and discuss insurance.
Liability is just a lawyer word that means “who caused this accident – who’s responsible for it?”
And hopefully the person who injured you will have insurance or you will have uninsured motorist coverage – that’s all very very important and we’re going to talk about these things as we go on through the future as we discuss auto accidents, primarily here in the Shelby County, Tennessee area.
