A MIST injury stands for a “Minor Impact Soft Tissue” injury. Insurance companies like to use this label on injuries that don’t involve broken bones.
One of the most common examples is whiplash: Whiplash doesn’t involve broken bones, but it’s still very real and very serious. In extreme cases it can cause chronic pain for a lifetime.
It can be hard to prove when you experience back pain, neck pain, or migraines after a car accident. These injuries can sometimes be bad enough to keep you from work and may require physical therapy and medication; but the insurance companies often say you’re faking it – even if your doctor says it’s real!
When these injuries happen to sports players, everyone takes them very seriously. Football players suffer from MIST injuries all the time, and when they do, they’re removed from the game and given immediate medical attention.
Yet when you experience the same injury, the insurance companies don’t believe you. I don’t think that’s right.
As a car accident lawyer in Memphis, I take on the insurance companies every day.
