According to a survey by Liberty Mutual Insurance of 1,007 adults ages 40-65 with at least one parent who drives, 17% of traffic deaths in the US involved people age 65. People age 65 and older only make up 13% of the US population. Ending night time sporting events is not the solution to curb youth violence in Memphis By: Darrell Castle This past Friday after a high school football game at Central High School in Memphis, a mob of teens ran the streets, damaging cars and attacking innocent people. This sparked a proposal by Mayor AC Wharton – stop having Friday night football games and instead move them to the day time either on Friday or Saturday. I understand the mayor’s struggles and he’s had a lot to deal with this year – it’s an impossible job right now. CNN reported earlier this week that Johnson & Johnson reached a settlement for $2.2 billion for marketing unapproved drugs. The unapproved drugs include Risperdal and Invega, which are used for schizophrenia, and Natrecor, for heart failure. Fines and forfeitures will go to the federal government and several states. Attorney General Eric Holder said that Johnson & Johnson and two subsidiaries, “lined their pockets at the expense of American taxpayers, patients and the private insurance industry.” The Justice Department stated this settlement as one of the country’s largest in health care, including one of the largest whistleblower payouts in US history. The following drugs and medical devices were recalled in July 2012, either voluntarily by the manufacturer or forcibly by the FDA: Bedford Laboratories Leucovorin Calcium Injection Used at the hospital level, two lots of this cancer medication have been recalled because of crystalline particulates found in the injections that could cause serious side effects and even death. Injectable Carboplatin, Cytarabine, Paclitaxel and Methotrexate Hospira has recalled certain lots of these cancer drugs because of defects in the glass vials used to package them. The defects could allow particulates into the medication. X-Rock/Z-Rock These male enhancement drugs have been recalled in certain forms because of undeclared ingredients used to treat erectile dysfunction. Benzalkonium Chloride Antiseptic Wipes These common wipes, sold over
