“Crazy, Outrageous Amounts of Medication” This February in Los Angeles, Dr. Hsiu-Ying “Lisa” Tseng was convicted of 3 counts of second degree murder. All 3 victims died from overdose. It was the first time a US doctor was found guilty of murder for over-prescribing drugs – but it probably won’t be the last. According to prosecutors, Tseng sold “crazy, outrageous amounts of medication” to patients who didn’t need the pills. They say she prescribed multiple drugs illegally, didn’t keep records of her patients’ visits, and then faked medical records when authorities began investigating her. Perhaps most damning, Tseng failed to recognize warning signs when her patients started showing dangerous behavior, even after family members contacted her begging for her to stop prescribing the
Pepsi announced this afternoon that it’ll be closing its Collierville manufacturing location and will stay a warehouse and distribution facility. This seems to be a result of the difficult national climate for soft drinks. This action will cause 55 employees to be laid off, including 12 salaried workers and 43 hourly workers. Layoffs are no fun for anyone involved. The company doesn’t necessarily WANT to layoff workers, but it’s in their own best interest do so in most situations. This also isn’t desirable for the employee who’s being laid off. Ideally, the said employee has emergency money saved up – the rule of thumb is to save up enough money to survive at least three months without income. However, for
In this video, I explain what a personal injury case is and what needs to be proven for the case to be successful. Video Transcript Hello this is Darrell Castle. I’m an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of Tennessee and on this video I’m talking about what a personal injury case is and what are some of the things that a plaintiff’s attorney or an attorney who represents an injured person has to prove in order to be successful. First of all, in a personal injury case there always has to be someone who is responsible for the injury – liability lawyers call it. There has to be liability. In other words, you have to be
When you go to the emergency room for something as serious as poisoning, it’s crucial for doctors to treat you quickly and as effectively as possible. But in order for that to happen, they have to see you in the first place. In one recent case in Brooklyn, a young woman went to the hospital for possible poisoning last May. She arrived there “conscious and alert” according to the New York Times. The emergency room staff gave her a strong sedative and tied her to the bed. No one she knew was aware of her presence at the hospital. Her records – or rather the lack thereof – suggest she was left alone for over three hours that afternoon with
Personal injury cases attempt to deal with situations in which someone else’s neglect or wrongdoing causes a person serious harm. While it often relates to physical harm, sometimes the damage can be psychological, too. It should come as no surprise that some injuries are so traumatic they affect a person’s emotional well-being. After such events, the victim commonly needs help dealing psychologically with the aftermath. That process might include therapy and time away from work, both of which can be costly. Sometimes the devastating effects can be permanently traumatizing. If you suspect you may have experienced emotional distress from an accident and will need treatment to recover, talk to your attorney about including it in your case. You may have
If a pharmacy messes up my prescription, do I have a personal injury case? Pharmacy errors occur when a pharmacist fills your prescription incorrectly by giving you the wrong medication or dosage. It may surprise you to know that such mistakes happen all the time. In fact, over 1.5 million people are injured and 100,000 people die every year from adverse drug reactions. Not all of those injuries happen because of pharmacies. Many medication errors occur in hospitals, long-term care facilities, or under a doctor’s supervision. But as pharmacists tend to be overworked and handle a huge number of orders every day, mistakes – sometimes fatal – do happen. If You’ve Been Injured By a Pharmacy Error If a
A judge recently found TVA liable for the massive coal ash spill that devastated the Kingston area of Roane County, Tennessee, in 2008. The spill flooded Kingston and its nearby Emory River with 1.1 billion gallons of toxic coal sludge right before Christmas. Along with other property, it destroyed entire homes and covered over 5 million cubic yards. While no one was killed in the spill, the slurry contained concentrated levels of mercury, arsenic, and benzene. It decimated local wildlife and put people’s health at great risk. It also appears to have been preventable. U.S. Dist. Judge Thomas Varlan says TVA was negligent in their behavior and liable for the damage done. Poor design and improper maintenance of the facility
Establishments most-likely to be in the middle of a premises liability case By: Darrell Castle Are you a naturally-clumsy person who’s prone to fall up the stairs or trip over your foot? If so, there are some places you may want to avoid – however the problem is that these places are popular and places you probably want to go! hotels motels apartment buildings shopping centers retail stores sports stadiums restaurants bars movie theaters What do all of these places have in common? They’re everyday, and some necessary, locations that have a lot of foot traffic! However, they’re also places that are more likely to find themselves defending premises liability cases, according to Legal Examiner. It can be relatively-easy for
On occasion we get calls or questions about dangerous dogs that belong to members of the police force. This is, unfortunately, a relatively common problem we see as dog attack lawyers in Memphis. Sometimes the dog is a dangerous police dog that may threaten or even hurt someone during regular police work. It’s possible for even the most well-trained dog to lash out or bite someone – especially when the animal is typically used for law enforcement purposes and feels threatened by a stranger. However, police also keep dogs on their own property that are unrelated to law enforcement. These dogs can also be unsafe, and are arguably a more common problem in Memphis. After working tirelessly in perilous situations
We recently discussed the strange death of Chavis Carter, who according to Arkansas authorities somehow managed to shoot himself in the back of a patrol car while handcuffed. Now an autopsy report claims the victim had at least trace amounts of drugs in his blood and shot himself in his left temple. But Carter’s supporters still feel like their questions haven’t been answered. Police have yet to release extremely important evidence, including gunpowder residue test results and dashboard audio and video records. In addition, supporters want to know how Carter – who was left-handed and searched twice by police – managed to obtain a gun and shoot himself in the right temple while handcuffed. For now, the authorities control most
