Seek medical treatment after a car accident By: Darrell Castle If you’ve been injured in a car accident, it’s always important to seek medical treatment before doing anything else. Sometimes after an accident, your pain can be obvious and there’s no way you can escape accepting medical treatment. However, often times the pain is minor and you think everything is okay. If you feel any pain whatsoever, I urge you to seek medical treatment, even if it’s a day or two later. This minor pain we sometimes feel after a car accident can turn into more chronic and nagging injuries if it’s not properly treated. Instead of living with that pain the rest of your life (or for a while
If you’ve been injured in a semi-trailer truck accident, you may have a more complicated case than in other road accident situations. Here are some issues to keep in mind: They usually occur on interstate highways, traveling at high speeds, which means injuries can be more severe and the stakes higher for compensation. Trucking regulations require drivers to do certain things, like only drive a certain number of miles per day. Sleep is a big factor in truck accidents, and an attorney can investigate records to see if a driver has been out on the road for 20 straight hours or otherwise broken a regulation. Because trucks are often owned by larger companies, accidents can also relate to workers’ compensation

You may recall a recent case out of Memphis in which a man was arrested and convicted for raping and abusing a 78-year-old woman. While the case horrified and disgusted most people who heard about it, it’s not as uncommon as you might think. According to the Boston College Connell School of Nursing, which published a lengthy report on the subject of sexual assault of elderly men and women, surveys from 2000 revealed that 3,370 of 261,000 rapes and sexual assaults were victims’ age 65 or older. However, they also cite a serious problem with under-reporting: only an estimated 30% of incidents are reported to police. This abuse may go unreported for a number of reasons, including: mental disability: victims
Last week I wrote about the problem of what happens when banks don’t officially foreclose on a home. The results are what’s known as “shadow inventory” – houses left uninhabited and uncared-for. It’s a serious, even disastrous, problem in Memphis. Just this past week The Commercial Appeal reported on a massive cleanup of one abandoned house that had been taken over by rodents and pests. It wreaked of trash and animal excrement, and was only taken care of after neighbors complained. Memphis Animal Services and the city’s Public Works Division had to spend hours clearing the property. The undertaking no doubt cost the city a lot of money. Plus the rightful owner most likely deserves a hefty fine. The problem
By: Darrell Castle The medicine she was taking during his first trimester of pregnancy was harming her baby and she had no idea. Alice and her husband were so excited to find out they were having a baby! They had been married a few years and were ready to welcome a new member into their family. Alice loved her doctor. He was nice, trusting and really seemed to know his stuff. She felt very comfortable around him and that was a quality she sought after in a physician. So, when her doctor gave her some medicine to treat the nausea – morning sickness – she trusted him and took it. And it worked well! It really helped control her nausea
By now, the dangers of texting on the road have been well discussed in the media, and many states – including Tennessee – have banned texting while driving altogether. But the temptation to check messages can still be difficult, especially if you’re running late or getting information about where you’re going. In case you still have a tendency to text while driving, check out these statistics: Likelihood of causing a car crash: When driving while drunk: 4x When texting while driving: 8x Ability to stop the car when necessary (at 35mph): Drunk drivers drive 4 feet further on average Texting drivers drive 25 feet further on average If it’s safer to drive drunk than to text your friend, we’d
By: Darrell Castle If you’re injured by someone else’s dog, you should NOT discuss your injuries with the dog owner. In fact, I recommend if this happens to you, you should contact an experienced personal injury attorney immediately and let that be the ONLY person you discuss your injuries with. The only reason you want to talk to the dog owner is to gather and exchange information. You don’t want to say anything that may come back to hurt you in your case – especially by recording a statement or signing papers. Don’t do that! If you’re injured in a dog attack, reach out to an experienced dog attack attorney in Memphis TN. You shouldn’t be liable for those medical
Choose a bankruptcy before liquidating your retirement account By: Darrell Castle You’ve gotten yourself nose deep into debt due to bad spending and poor money management. What should you do? You have a nice-sized retirement account you’ve been investing in for years. That’s just money sitting there for the taking. It’s yours – you can use it if you want. Or you can file for bankruptcy – but that just sounds awful, or so you may think. But, is a bankruptcy awful, or is it actually your best choice? A bankruptcy isn’t awful. If you’re faced with massive credit card debt and have no way to pay it, a bankruptcy IS your best choice. Sure, you have your retirement account
If you’re in a car accident, do you always need to contact the police? What if the accident happens on private property? In this video, Memphis car accident lawyer Darrell Castle discusses the importance of calling the police after any crash on the road. httpv://youtu.be/ZWzdLIRbUpw Text: Yes it’s always a good idea to call the police – somebody should call the police after your accident. If there are injuries, of course the answer is obvious, but it’s a good idea to have a record for insurance purposes and so forth. The insurance company is going to want to know: did you call the police? Because they want to see the police investigation report. Even if
