On Sunday, May 14, 2023, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Memphis Police Department responded to a car crash at W Mallory near Interstate 55. Upon arrival, officers found two people involved in the crash. One person was pronounced dead on the scene, and the other was transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. The deceased victim has been identified as 25-year-old LaToya Smith. Smith had been a passenger in the vehicle that was struck. The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Michael Jones, was transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. A Shelby County woman is warning others after she lost money after her bank and social media accounts were hacked. The woman wished to remain anonymous and explained that someone who claimed that they were from the bank contacted her. The email said that her account had been flagged for suspicious activity and that she needed to click on a link to verify her identity. The victim reported that she clicked on the link and entered her personal information. Once she did, the hacker was able to access her bank account and social media accounts.
