Chapter 7 bankruptcy has a lot of power. The powers are so beneficial that I just had to cover them all in a free e-book. You can download it here — all you need is a name and email address!
But WHO does it benefit? Who can file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy?
If you have unsecured debt you’re struggling with and just can’t pay, then Chapter 7 bankruptcy is a great option for you. Unsecured debt is simply debt NOT backed by collateral or property. Unpaid credit card and medical bills are perfect examples of unsecured debt. There’s no property your creditors can take from you when you fall behind on the payments.
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t fall behind on your payments. When you miss, it can hurt your credit score and you can open yourself up to harassing calls from creditors. And your wages can be garnished, which is NO FUN to deal with.
What Chapter 7 bankruptcy can do
By filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, you can discharge that debt in a relatively short amount of time. The process takes a few months.
Then once that debt is cleared, you have a clean slate. You’ve given yourself a fresh start to rebuild your finances the right way, including your credit score. It’s a great opportunity if you’re struggling with debt!
