Should the Kroger victims sue the grocery store? By: Darrell Castle As a Memphis personal injury attorney, one passion of mine is to help those people who are hurt on someone’s property due to that property owner’s negligence. These typically come in the form of slip and fall accidents in grocery stores, hotels, banks and similar establishments. However, they can sometimes come in other forms, which leads me to the Kroger incident that happened this past weekend. If you live in Memphis, or in the region, then you’re probably well-aware of the three people injured in a mob beating at the Memphis Kroger at Poplar and Highland. The incident occurred around 9:15pm on Saturday when dozens of teenagers ran from
Nationwide, employers are required to have workers’ compensation (aka workers’ comp) insurance in case employees are injured on the job; but specifics can vary according to state. In Tennessee, employers are required to have workers’ comp if they employ 5 or more people, or just 1 person if they work in the construction industry. The coverage has to begin before those employees’ first day of work. Even companies with smaller staff than 5 employees often opt to carry workers’ comp, because it can protect the employer from civil lawsuits if someone gets injured on the job. But sometimes companies try to get buy without paying for the insurance. Certain employers try to protect themselves from civil lawsuits by hiring immigrants
Tennessee’s state debt is running at about $5.9 billion. Sure, that may sound like bad news. But Tennessee’s $5.9 billion in debt is actually the lowest of any state in the US. In fact, it’s lauded as “good news” and a sign of fiscal responsibility. Would the same be said for your household? Debt isn’t relative for individuals struggling to pay the bills. Just because your next door neighbor owes thousands of dollars more than you doesn’t protect you from wage garnishment. Even if you owe a relatively tiny medical debt, you can receive harassing creditor phone calls that threaten your work and home life. And the longer you let that debt sit, the worse off you’ll usually be. As

By: Darrell Castle Was your baby born with a hole in the heart? If you took Zofran, then there’s a good chance that’s why. Many doctors prescribe Zofran to mothers during the first trimester of their pregnancy. It’s used to treat the symptoms of morning sickness – nausea and vomiting. And it has a history of working well. The problem is, the FDA never approved it for this usage. Zofran is FDA-approved for its original design – to treat nausea associated with chemotherapy and post-surgery recovery. NOT pregnancy. And studies show that when used during the first trimester of pregnancy, Zofran can pass into the placenta and HARM THE BABY. A hole in the heart is one of the many
Recent attacks in Memphis have brought vicious animals back into the headlines. First, a pit bull terrier attacked a toddler who wandered onto his neighbor’s property. Then, only three days later, two pit bulls and a Rottweiler attacked two adults. While the adults will likely recover, the toddler was taken to LeBonheur in extremely critical condition. In both cases, the owners seem to have shown severe lack of responsibility with the dogs, all of which were considered particularly dangerous breeds. In the case of the pit bull/Rottweiler pack, the owners were allegedly so certain that the dogs weren’t dangerous, even after the attacks, that they hid one of them in the attic to prevent its being taken by animal services.
Parents should teach their kids how to behave around dogs By: Darrell Castle An estimated 4.7 million dog bites occur every year in the United States, 800,000 of which require medical care! The insurance industry pays over $1 billion in dog bite claims annually. A dog attack can happen many different ways. It can be a result of a negligent dog owner not keeping his or her dog under proper control. It can be a result of a of a bad dog owner training his or her dog to be aggressive. Or it can be a result of a child, or even an adult, not knowing how to act around a dog. Now, the first two reasons pertaining to negligent
Local man was mauled to death by a pack of dogs Dogs kill people. It’s a harsh statement, but it’s true that when a dog owner doesn’t properly take care of his or her dog, it has the potential to become dangerous. I’m a dog lover. My daughter has a dog who I enjoy being around and talk about all the time. My daughter’s dog is properly taken care of and treated right, so it poses no threat. However, in Benton County, MS, an innocent man was mauled to death by a pack of dogs who were not properly cared for and treated. A driver found David Glass, Sr lying in a ditch by his house, covered in dog bites
