May 2, 2013 -Memphis, TN On Wednesday night, an 18-wheeler flipped on I-55 off Riverside Drive. According to the Commercial Appeal, the accident closed I-55 North at Crump and 1-240 Westbound at the I-55 junction. It caused a traffic headache on Wednesday, and the site continues to be closed leading into Thursday. No doubt they’ll get everything cleaned up soon, but as people start to leave for their morning commute, it could continue to be a traffic nightmare at least for the morning. The reason for all these closures? The truck was carrying nitric acid. When it flipped, it spilled the chemical into the street. Fortunately at this point, no one has been reported injured. Hazmat teams are on the
As a Memphis attorney working with bone graft injury patients who were hurt by Medtronic’s INFUSE Bone Graft product, it’s clear to me that this city is the place to be right now for INFUSE lawsuits. There are a few reasons Memphis is a hub of sorts for bone graft injuries: Medtronic has a center located in Memphis specifically dedicated to spinal surgery. In May 2013, this center went through layoffs, in part because of the controversy over INFUSE. The first report of Medtronic using improper marketing tactics was filed in Memphis. A Medtronic lawyer filed the whistleblower complaint that led to serious investigation of the product. Because of Medtronic’s spinal surgery office being located in Memphis, our city
As the heat wave dies down in the Mid-South, utility companies are turning up the heat on unpaid bills. This summer, MLGW and other area creditors gave a break to people who hadn’t paid their bills. Cutting power in the middle of a heat wave could be deadly, and they recognized this by allowing outstanding debts to go unenforced for a while. But fall is around the corner and Memphis is cooling down. So as of this week, MLGW and other utility companies have announced that they will begin enforcing unpaid bills again. Residents all over the area who are behind on payments may find themselves losing access to certain services in the near future. To set up a repayment

Car Accidents In and Around Memphis from Dangerous Driving The most obvious and common problem stemming from storms is car accidents. During and after storms, people can drive less carefully when really we should
There’s no minimum debt to filing for bankruptcy in Memphis or nationwide. Bankruptcy does come with certain fees, however, so in theory a debt could be too small to be worth it. In general, the lack of minimum debt protects people from being judged on an objective basis. People’s finances can vary according to each person’s individual situation: a small medical debt might not be difficult to pay if you have a steady job and sizable income; but if you just lost your job, even a small amount can become a huge burden very quickly. Sometimes the debt is so minimal that it’s not in your best interest to file bankruptcy. Perhaps it’s barely more than the filing fee, or
Lawsuits are being filed in relation to Mirena, a popular contraceptive used to prevent pregnancy for up to 5 years and help with heavy menstrual bleeding. The device, which is made by Bayer, is inserted by a doctor and releases hormones directly into the uterus. The lawsuits claim Bayer did not warn doctors and patients properly of the risks of uterine perforation after the device was inserted. Our Memphis Mirena injury lawyers are accepting cases related to Mirena and uterine perforation. As part of our efforts, we want women to be aware of what a perforated uterus is and how it can affect the body. Uterine perforation means that a hole has been made in the uterus. This can be
John Hopkins released a study in April revealing that the largest portion of legal payouts among all medical malpractice claims occur from misdiagnosis. This means cases such as Claudialee Gomez-Nicanor are becoming more and more common. Claudialee, a six year old, landed in the hospital after a night of nausea and fatigue. Her blood sugar was five times the normal limit but her doctor did not provide her with the insulin that her body needed to process the glucose. The doctor, pediatric endocrinologist Arlene Mercado, diagnosed her with type 2 diabetes, rather than type 1. With Claudialee needing type 1 treatment, she later died. Type 1 diabetes is the more urgent of the two while type 2 can be
Mold in the workplace happens all the time, just like in your home; but sometimes it can grow to dangerous proportions and put employees at risk of dangerous side effects, including: respiratory illness allergic reactions headaches nausea dizziness fatigue Some studies have connected mold exposure to even more serious symptoms. Until recently, mold in the workplace has not been covered by workers’ compensation. Workers’ comp insurance companies would claim employees had the same risks of mold in certain work environments as they would in other similar work environments. Since the risks weren’t any higher, according to the insurance company, damage shouldn’t be covered as a work-related injury. But then in 2010, an auto dealership in North Carolina became
