When Dogs Attack By: Darrell Castle Here in Memphis, a big city with a lot of residential areas, dogs get loose fairly often and are roaming the streets. Sometimes, these dogs are harmless to you because they’ve been trained relatively well. However, some dog owners are completely negligent and their dog is either trained to attack or doesn’t know it’s not supposed to. Cesar’s Way, a great online resource for dog owners, has some advice for what you should do when confronted by a dog. The article details why dogs attack – as a result of motion, which triggers their prey drive. When you run or walk by a house with a dog fenced in the back yard, that
Bed bugs in a movie theater? By: Darrell Castle You hear about bed bugs in motels and hotels, but movie theaters? Get out of here! But that’s what happened in Lodi, California, where a theater is temporarily closed after several people complained they were bitten by bed bugs while watching a movie. Two teens were covered in bed bug bites the morning after they were enjoying a flick at a local theater. “When we woke up the next morning, we looked at each other and saw that we had all these red bumps all over us,” one of the girls said. A family member told the local news that the girls woke up with hundreds of bites on their bodies.
Do you have delayed pain after a motorcycle accident? By: Darrell Castle If you’re in a motorcycle accident but don’t immediately experience pain, or even after a day, you might feel pretty lucky. However, that doesn’t mean you’re out of the woods yet. Many times, up to a week or so after the accident, you may begin to feel some pain. Often, this delayed pain reveals itself in a back injury. It’s at this point you need to seek medical treatment, because these small injuries can turn into nagging long-term injuries if not properly treated. You also need to speak to an attorney – it’s not too late. Even if you told the police officer at the scene of the
By: Darrell Castle So that car came out of no where and smashed into you while you were riding your bicycle? That unfortunately doesn’t surprise me. Here in Memphis, there’s been a longstanding feud between cyclists and drivers. Some in each group think they own the road, when in reality, they share it. With the city of Memphis making the necessary push to mold the community into a more “livable” one by adding bike lanes – and gaining a lot of positive national exposure for its efforts – it’s time for these drivers and cyclist to get along and learn how to share the road. But, perfection will never be a reality and accidents will happen due to ignorance of
By: Darrell Castle General Motors expected to pay out $400 million in compensation claims, but that number could increase to $600 million. Surely you remember the GM ignition switch debacle from last year. You know, the one where GM officials knew many of their makes of vehicles had a faulty ignition switch. And that this faulty ignition switch could shut the entire vehicle off…while it’s in use…disabling everything. Brakes. Airbags. Everything. That seems very dangerous, and that’s because it is. Many people were seriously injured. Many people died. With the high number of personal injury claims – and the PR nightmare – GM set up a compensation program to fund the injured victims and the families of lost loved ones.
Why did these two trains collide? By: Darrell Castle A train crash early Sunday morning in Hoxie, Arkansas, 90 miles outside of Memphis, left two crew members dead and two others injured. The trains collided head on, leaving the question – why were these trains on the same track? “We don’t know the cause of the accident. We have no idea why these trains were on the same line,” Emergency Management Director, Buddy Williams, said. The collision involved two locomotives, one with with 86 cars and one with 93 cars. This was no small crash. A resulting fire took nearly seven hours to extinguish. “We will be looking at train signal information,” said Michael Hiller, an investigator for the National
If you’ve been hurt in a truck accident, will filing a claim cost you a lot of money? Actually, quite the opposite. A truck crash lawsuit shouldn’t cost you anything. Memphis car and truck accident lawyer Darrell Castle explains. httpv://youtu.be/RCRyoZTzZOE Text: What Will a Truck Accident Lawsuit Cost Me? A truck accident lawsuit shouldn’t cost you anything unless your attorney prevails and recovers money for you. Then he would take a percentage fee, which he would agree to with you in writing before the case started. It’s really foolish not to hire an attorney in a truck accident. They’re so complicated and need so much investigation. And all that is done essentially without cost to you.

By: Darrell Castle Understanding the difference between a secured debt and an unsecured debt is pretty simple. A secured debt is something that’s backed up by collateral – something tangible that can be taken away from you if you don’t make your payments. The most common secured debts are your mortgage and car. If you fall behind on your mortgage, then your lender has the right to take your home from you – foreclosure. If you fall behind on your car payments, then your lender has the right to take your car from you – repossession. Then, unsecured debt, of course, is debt that is NOT backed by collateral – there’s nothing tangible the creditor can take away from you
By: Darrell Castle A Chapter 7 bankruptcy is commonly referred to as a “straight bankruptcy.” In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, you’re allowed to discharge your unsecured debt you can’t pay, like credit card and medical bills. In most cases, you can even keep your property – like your house or car – IF you’re current on your payments. Some unique advantages a Chapter 7 bankruptcy has are cost and time. When you file Chapter 7, you don’t have to make any payments towards your debt – unless the debt is not dischargeable or has retained collateral – and the process will be completed in a few short months. Once the process is complete, you’re free of that debt that’s been
