Bedbugs in a Memphis Hotel By: Darrell Castle A little girl was bitten by bed bugs in the Motel 6 on Austin Peay highway in Memphis, causing her to itch all over the next day. When the girl returned home from school that following afternoon, she was covered in a bad rash. “Her face, her legs, her arms, so I took her to Methodist North hospital, and they confirmed that it was bed bug bites all over her body,” Telika Howard, the girl’s mother said The motel guests were staying in the Motel 6 as they were waiting to move into their new house and only spent one night in that room. Beef Recall and Food Sickness

Posted on August 19, 2016
Cargill Meat Solutions has recalled nearly 30,000 pounds of beef because of risks for salmonella. The beef, which sold mostly in the Northeast region of the US, is no longer available for sale; but it may still be in some consumers’ freezers. Food products are recalled all the time for a variety reasons. Some of the most common include: bacterial risks, such as salmonella particles of inedible material, like metals undeclared products in the food, like nuts, that could cause serious allergic reactions other labeling errors, such as incorrect expiration dates There’s no perfect way to prevent bringing unsafe food into your home, but here are some tips that could help: Shop for organic and unprocessed foods when possible. Wash
The government has recently warned against something called “counterfeit airbags.” These airbags have been found either to deploy incorrectly or not at all. The problem could affect tens of thousands of drivers. Roughly 250,000 cars on the road are compatible with counterfeit airbags. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), you may be at risk of having faulty, counterfeit airbags if:   You’ve gotten your airbags replaced within the last 3 years at a repair shop separate from a new car dealership. You’ve purchased a used car that may have had an airbag deployment before you bought it. You own a salvaged, rebuilt, or reconstructed car. You’ve purchased replacement airbags from non-certified sources, like Ebay or Craigslist.
Bicyclist sent to hospital after hit by a truck By: Darrell Castle A 57 year old man was taking a routine bike ride in Texas after a truck accident. A truck driver pulled into his lane and appeared to clip him, sending Mark Cathey to the hospital, with a collapsed lung, five broken ribs and a broken scapula among other scrapes and bruises. For years, Cathey has been video-taping his bike rides, originally to showcase sights along his rides, but more recently for safety. Thank God he was recording this time around. This further exemplifies the need for more bicycle safety awareness, specifically for drivers. Cathey was riding his bicycle legally along the road, but for whatever reason, the driver

Bicycle Accidents and Your Legal Rights

Posted on August 19, 2016
Bicycles are becoming a big thing in Memphis. As the city creates long-distance bike trails and adds bike lanes along major highways, many Memphians are taking to the streets, rain or shine. But the additional cyclists don’t necessarily mean more cautious drivers. As many area motorists still get used to the influx of bikes, they may forget to look carefully before changing lanes or turning. And when cars hit bicycles, the results can be disastrous. If you have been injured while on your bicycle, you may be entitled to compensation. We can help you figure out your options moving forward, and will let you know what kind of case you have at no cost to you. Just let us know
When a doctor recommends a certain prescription drug, we want to trust them. We really do. But sometimes that can be hard when we know what goes on behind the scenes. It’s common practice for drug companies to market their medications through rewards systems. It was part of the recent GlaxoSmithKline case and may explain why some doctors push a particular drug with such fervor. Here are some of the ways big pharm rewards the people who market their products:   Luxury vacation offers for doctors who sell enough of one drug Loyalty-based offers like spa treatments and golf packages for physicians who regularly recommend certain drugs Financial bonuses to sales reps based on how much of a medication they
We’ve been touching on big truck accidents frequently lately, and for good reason. When you combine the weight of the actual truck, plus the weight of the load the truck is carrying and then you add the high-speeds the truck is traveling, big trucks (aka semis or tractor trailers) can be a vehicle of death just waiting for trouble. This is why big truck drivers have to be very alert – probably even more so than drivers of ordinary vehicles. These trucks are, well, big and they’re also very slow to stop. If the driver is irresponsible for even a second, disaster can strike. That was the case in Fontana, California recently when the driver of a semi-truck ran a red

By: Darrell Castle After two samples of ice cream tested positive for a potentially deadly bacteria — listeria — Blue Bell Creameries issued a voluntarily recall for ALL of its products. Blue Bell — based in Texas — distributes their ice cream, frozen yogurt and snack products in 23 states, including here in Tennessee. Blue Bell operates three plants — two in Oklahoma and one in Alabama. Blue Bell originally thought the bacteria was isolated to one of the Oklahoma plants, but then tests came back
Botox is being used in large doses right now for children who have spasms. In particular, it’s being used on kids with cerebral palsy. Tragically, this treatment is killing some children. Botox use in pediatric spasticity (or children with spasms) has not been approved by the FDA. In fact, the FDA hasn’t approved Botox use in ANY child under the age of 12 – regardless of medical condition. Botox contains a toxin called botulinum toxin type A. This toxin is produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, which has a paralyzing effect and is the cause of botulism. In large doses, Botox can poison a child with the toxin and thus lead to botulism. Botulism in children can be even more
