The very first thing a lot of people want to know when hiring a bankruptcy attorney is “how much will it cost.” Unfortunately, there’s been a rise lately in lawyers offering bankruptcy services at a very low rate and then not providing a quality service. When I hear the question, my heart sinks a little, because I hate to see people get taken for a ride – especially when you’re already struggling financially. And when it comes to bankruptcy, you get what you pay for. In bankruptcy, the results of poor service can be devastating. I’m not just talking about hidden fees and unreturned phone calls, although both are terrible. I’m talking about feeling abandoned when you need it most.
Tennessee has a new jobs database: the JOBS4TN Online search engine went live Monday May 14, according to the The Commercial Appeal. JOBS4TN Online works like a regular job search engine, with a focus on the state of TN. You can search for employment opportunities based on keyword and location or browse featured listings. The listings improve on TN’s previous search engine by including listings from local papers, government websites, and private job boards. Employers can also create individual listings directly on the site. As a result, listings on the site increased almost 3x from 30,000 to 85,000 with the new overhaul. In addition, JOBS4TN Online includes resources and services for job seekers like career center locations, occupation and industry

The Associated Press issued the following tweet this morning… This is both good and bad. It’s good that weekly jobless claims are at pre-recession levels, however it’s worrisome that there’s an increase in Americans seeking jobless benefits. It’s even more worrisome here in Memphis, a community that typically sits behind the curve and tends to have a higher unemployment rate than other bigger cities. In fact, as of this past Janurary, Memphis’ unemployment rate is 8.4%, which ranks 43rd among the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the US, according to the US Department of Labor. As a Memphis bankruptcy attorney who’s practiced in this city for decades, I know many Memphians are struggling. It can be tough to get by,

Name, address, phone number, license number,
We’ve talked a lot about Fresenius’ dialysis treatment, GranuFlo, and for good reason. GranuFlo has been linked to serious health risks, including heart attack, stroke and even death within 72 hours of the procedure. The drug has been used in various clinics worldwide. In regular use, many physicians and facilities prefer GranuFlo because it prevents injury to themselves and other workers as it keeps physicians from having to use liquid acid, which can be very dangerous. It’s also lightweight and easy to transport and its smaller size saves storage space. But, as mentioned above, it’s not safe for the patients. As one of the most widely-distributed dialysis compounds in the world, GranuFlo has been administered to the majority of dialysis patients everywhere. Unfortunately, Fresenius
By: Darrell Castle Lost wages from time off work is a main ingredient factored into your compensation claim if you were injured in a car accident that wasn’t your fault. But how do you prove it? Well, that’s actually pretty simple. You get a wage loss statement from your employer stating how much money you make. With that, it’s possible to officially determine how much income you missed out on while recouping from your injuries. When you’re injured in a car accident, you’ll probably be ordered by your doctor to take some time off work to heal. Why should you be held liable for that missed income if the accident wasn’t your fault? Shouldn’t the person who’s liable for the
By: Darrell Castle True or False: When a dog attacks someone, that dog’s owner is liable for the injuries caused. Well, it’s really both true and false. As with many legal questions I answer, “it depends.” One question every dog bite case begins with is whether or not the dog owner had any reason to predict his or her dog would’ve attacked the victim. Does the dog have a history of aggression? Has the dog attacked someone before? Tennessee has relatively complex dog bite laws. Some situations may warrant strict liability while other situations warrant “one bite” liability – basically giving grace to a dog owner if his or her dog has shown no history of aggression or aggressive tendencies.
By: Darrell Castle The owner could’ve prevented your slip and fall. At least that’s the mindset you should have if you’re injured in a slip and fall accident on someone else’s property. Is that always true? No, of course not. But you should be looking to prove that it is by contacting an attorney and getting a case evaluation. That mindset is also important because the first thing you should do when you’re injured in a slip and fall on someone’s property is report the incident to the owner. He or she needs to know what happened. This is simple protocol. In that regard, what you should NOT do is make ANY recorded statement without an attorney present. That has
