Nissan Jukes Recalled

Posted on February 26, 2016
Nissan has announced they’re recalling 11,000 Jukes made between February 3 to May 26, 2012, because of a defect in the seat backs. A faulty part might allow the seat backs to come loose during a crash and increase the risk of injury. No injuries have been reported yet, thank goodness. Nissan dealers will be contacting owners directly and the company is also raising awareness through the news. If you own a Juke and worry it might be defective, you can talk directly with your dealer. If your car does fall within the recall, the dealer will replace the faulty part for free. Car recalls happen more than you might realize. The government keeps a list of them on safercar.gov,

A nursing home caretaker in Colorado has been charged with abusing an elderly patient. The investigation of this case began last year in Luzerne County. According to court papers, Tonya Harlos, 27 years old, was an employee of Guardian Elder Care Center and caring for an elderly dementia patient. The patient claimed Harlos fought her, grabbing and bruising her arms in the process. She also claimed Harlos covered her face with a pillow and took one of her dolls. Raymond Luczak, an elderly man who lives next door to Harlos, described her as “nothing but nice to him.” Though Harlos claimed she was defending herself against the elderly patient who was trying to bite and punch her and denying that
Let’s play a numbers game – the number is 90. 90 is the percentage of all nursing homes that cited a deficiency. 90 is also the percentage of US nursing homes with staffing levels too low to provide adequate care. These alarming statistics were provided in a report, sending signals out to those looking at nursing home options for parents, grandparents and other loved ones. When we are put in the situation to look at nursing home options for our loved ones, it is a necessity to investigate facilities thoroughly.  Unfortunately, abuse and neglect can be hidden. In multiple nursing home investigations, hidden cameras have caught the staff abusing their residents. In Families for Better Care’s state report cards, the
Financial elder abuse can be absolutely devastating; and as our population ages, it’s also becoming more common. Elders are extremely vulnerable to family members and even strangers. Often they’ve accrued a substantial estate, and because they’re nearing the end of their lives, the inheritance could become available very soon. This leads certain greedy people to target them for money. The situation is even more dangerous for residents of nursing homes, who don’t have a close family member there at all times to protect them from fraud and other crimes. Add to that increased risk the confusion of dementia or Alzheimer’s, and you have a dangerous situation for the elder and his or her family. Mickey Rooney testified on financial abuse
As nursing home abuse lawyers in Memphis, we’ve seen firsthand how mistreatment of the elderly happens all the time. One way the government tries to prevent this problem is through inspections of nursing homes and adult care facilities. In the US, the federal government contracts with state officials to oversee nursing home inspections. That means Tennessee runs inspections of its sites that want to accept Medicare or Medicaid from their patients. Then the inspectors send that information to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) so the federal government can certify the nursing home. These inspections happen an average of once a year – sometimes more, sometimes less. When a site receives complaints, investigators might come more often. If
According to a Bloomberg report, Merck & Co., the manufacturer of NuvaRing, may pay $100 million to settle thousands of lawsuits. This is according to a New Jersey judge who said this deal can happen as long as enough woman agree to it. As many as 3,800 federal and state court cases could be settled. This all stems from lawsuits against NuvaRing with women accusing Merck of selling the drug while knowing its higher risk of heart attack-inducing blood clots when compared to other similar products. “The settlement is a fair resolution of this litigation,” the New Jersey judge said. “This is a lump-sum settlement of $100 million that covers the entire litigation nationwide.” But, is it fair? According to
NuvaRing will settle about 3,800 lawsuits By: Darrell Castle NuvaRing manufacturer, Merck & Co., has confirmed their agreement to settle about 3,800 lawsuits after more than 95% of the victims with claims chose to opt into the agreement. Merck had the option to opt out if less than 95% of those victims with claims opted in, but fortunately for the victims, that wasn’t an issue. The lawsuits claim Merck didn’t do a sufficient job in disclosing the potential dangers associated with the use of NuvaRing – including blood clots, strokes and heart attacks, high blood pressure and heart disease as well as cancer of the reproductive organs and breast. Merck, in its statement, said there’s “substantial” evidence to show NuvaRing
If you struggle with obesity, you know better than anyone that it can lead to very expensive medical bills, including treatments for diabetes, heart problems, and aches and pain. You may even need surgery at some point. What’s worse, a lot of insurance companies don’t want to cover the costs. Weight loss surgery like gastric bypass can cost upwards of $30,000 – and that doesn’t include all the extra expenses involved! It can be easy to get in over your head with medical debt. In fact, medical bills are the #1 cause of bankruptcy in the United States. What should you do if you have a lot of medical bills you can’t pay? You certainly can’t stop getting treatment, or
By: Darrell Castle If you live in Memphis, surely you’ve heard by now — and voiced your opinion — about the coming “Old Bridge” closure in 2017. TDOT announced last week that the I-55 “Old Bridge” across the Mississippi River would close for 9 months while they redevelop the I-55 and Crump area with new ramps and a roundabout. The whole point in this project is to ease traffic congestion in that area, which is much needed. But surely they can do so without closing the “Old Bridge” for 9 months, right? TDOT officials say “no.” So, that means for AT LEAST 9 months (do these projects ever finish on time?), if you want or need to cross the Mississippi
